(this page has a lot of images and may take a while to load.)
Turtles! I love those things. Both real ones, and fictional teenage mutant ninja ones. My main exposure to the franchise is via the various cartoons, so that's what you'll see here. Most of the shows have the same title and are referred to by year of release, so here's a quick guide (and some of my opinions) in case you're not familiar:
1987: Sometimes shortened to just '87', this was the very first TMNT cartoon. It had a monumental 10 seasons, making it currently the longest running TMNT cartoon. It finally finished in 1996. I like to put this on in the background while drawing, and I'm maybe halfway through.
2003: This was the one made by 4Kids, a company which is now dead in the dirt. I really enjoy this one! I'm about halfway through this as well, and while I've heard mixed things about the later seasons, I like time travel shenanigans, so hopefully I'll get some enjoyment out of it.
2012: Currently the only CGI (3D) TMNT cartoon, and my favourite of the collection. It's got a lot of problems, but that's half the fun for me. Stick around and I may eventually start sharing stuff from my sorta-rewrite sorta-fan-iteration inspired by this cartoon between 1 and 50 business years from now. Also, I headcanon this iteration's Leo as a trans woman, so if you see me refer to the character with she/her pronouns, that's why.
Rise/ROTTMNT: This was the first TMNT cartoon I watched, and I LOVED it! The animation is stellar, the writing is amazing, and the story brought me to tears on multiple occasions (I still have only watched the movie once because of the emotional damage, lol). If you're gonna watch any of these shows, make it this one. The beginning isn't super strong but the later parts are so worth it.
Tales/TOTTMNT: The most recent TMNT cartoon as of now... and probably my least favourite. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it just didn't click with me. I don't like a lot of the characters, and I didn't connect with any of them aside from Raph... Maybe I'm too old for this show, lol. I've only seen season 1, but I'm pretty sure season 2 has been out for a while. Maybe I'll give it another shot one of these days. I do absolutely adore the animation.
During the hayday of online Flash games, TMNT had a whole lot of surprisingly good ones (and some very bad ones, as well as plenty inbetween). Most of the official ones are for 2012, which aired right in the sweet-spot for web game popularity.
Flash may be dead, but plenty of its games and animations can be brought back. If you miss these old games, I HIGHLY suggest you check out Flashpoint. They've got a MASSIVE collection of web-based games and animations- and they archive more formats than just Flash!
Through Flashpoint, I was able to play a TON of TMNT web games, and grab assets from them. I'm gonna share some of my favourites, as well as some tidbits about the games they came from.
PLEASE NOTE that this should NOT be considered a complete collection of assets from any one of these games! If you want that, go get Flashpoint and download the games yourself. These are just my favourite little things I found. Some images have also been edited for layout reasons. Enjoy!
I don't really remember this game, lol. I'll write a description if I get around to replaying it. It has some cool assets though.
This is from the title screen for the game. I really like the lighting.
These are from the character select screen. I like how everyone except Mikey looks really angry for some reason.
Images for game over and failure states. As of writing, Donnie's failure image with the yellow border is the icon for my fandom sideblog on Tumblr.
If you look closely at Mikey, you can see he's actually using the same render as on the character select screen, just with a face from a different render slapped on top.
Win screen! I don't think I actually won this game, so I guess this is unearned. Not sure where Mikey and Raph went.
This game is probably a lot of fun if you have better coordination than me, but I couldn't get the hang of it. It does look nice, though. It's one of only two Flash games (that I've found) to use the actual models from the show for the player sprites. If they aren't, they're at least very close.
The render from the title screen. I really love Leo here, she's so cute!
Character select! I love the render they chose for Mikey, he looks so silly.
This drawing from the story mode's intro looks very similar to a different TMNT flash game... Alan, please add details.
The animation sets for each character. I wanna note that the colours look much better in-game; I had to export these as GIFs and adjust the framerate for them to display in a webpage like this, and GIFs have limited colours. Aside from that, the animations here are stellar.
I believe these are from the high score screen. I love the stylized text saying their names, shame Donnie and Mikey's are so simple.
This is one of the worse games to feature here, in my opinion. It's boring and piss-easy, and the game calls you 'Raph' regardless of which turtle you play as. It also seems to be the only game other than Sewer Run to use the actual TV models for the player sprites.
More animation sets! This one carries the same caveat as Sewer Run of these GIFs having reduced colours and potentially incorrect framerates.
There's also some Spongebob related assets in here, including the Spongeboy font. Workinman, the developers of this game, have also made liscensed Spongebob Flash games.
